The Reaver of Souls by JuankiMan

Chapter 3

Mikeīs little sister just stood there, staring at the amazed expression of their faces. Mike was the first one to speak.

Mike: "What are you doing here?"
Blue: "Uhhh...just came to pay a visit."
Mike: "Pay a visit?ŋ? You live miles away from here! And anyway you could have at least told us."

Dave carfully put Roger down as he watched the two brothers argue. In that moment Chester entered the room curious about the noise. As soon as he saw Blue his hair bristled and started hissing at her. Dave could sense itīs feelings and realized that something was wrong. The first time they met Chester had freaked out but this was totally different; It was a mixture between hostility, hate and deep fear. He looked at Chester, then at Blue, back to Chester and finally back to Blue.

Mike: "Whatīs wrong with your cat?"
Dave: "Uhh...Mike, thatīs not Blue."

Mike gave him a puzzled look.

Mike: "What do you mean? Of course itīs her! Are you bl-UUUNGHhhhh..."

Blue pinched Mike hard on the base of the neck setting him inmediatly unconcious.

Blue: "You should have litsened to your roommate."

She then stared at Dave grinning maliciously.

Dave: "Okay, who are you and what do you want?"
Blue: "About who I am, I canīt give you my real name; And about what do I want...youīll know soon enough."

Dave watched horrified how the Mablothrax again assumed itīs true form. It aproached to Dave, who was paralized in horror, and grabbed him by his neck lifting him high.

Mablothrax: "Can you now guess what do I want?"
Dave: "*gasp**gurgle*...*ghaack!*"
Mablothrax: "You guessed right! Iīm here to finish what the boss started."
Margaret: "Hey Dave, I was just think-HOLY COW!!!"

Margaret entered the room and her eyes grew wide as she saw the abomination that had Dave. When she recovered she inmediatly unholstered a Magnum revolver and fired all the ammo at the Demon.

Margaret: GET OFF HIM YOU FREAK!!!

She lowered the empty gun and realized that the 44. caliber bullets barely scratched the creatureīs back.

Mablothrax: "Youīre firing at me? Let me give you some FIRE."

The beast took a deep breathe and spit a blaze of hellfire through itīs nostrils direcly at Margaret who rolled rolled aside avoiding the flames by inches.

Dave: "Margaret run!"

Margaret doubted for a moment and then ran through the burning door with Chester close behind.

Mablothrax: "Well Dave, weīre finally alone. You wonīt get away this time."

The demonīs smile grew wider as it prepared to suck Daveīs soul but It quickly faded into a frustrated expression and finally to a furious look.

Mablothrax: "NO! It canīt be! Your soul is not complete! I CANNOT ABSORB INCOMPLETE SOULS!!!"
Dave: Well, thatīs too bad. Now let me go!"

Recovered from the cathatonic state Dave blasted the creatureīs shoulder. The demon roared in pain and opened itīs hand dropping Dave roughly on the floor. Dave quickly got up and walked back away from the beast that was watching him with eyes red with rage.

Mablothrax: "Where is the other half of your soul? Tell me now or youīll bitterly regret having been born!"

The beast moved itīs huge mass Dave menacingly. Dave repeatedly blasted the creature, burning itīs unholy skin but it just ignored the pain and kept aproaching. It was just a few steps from Dave when a loud noise was heard.

*kra-chack*

BOOM!!

The Mablothrax was thrown to the floor due to the force of the blow. Getting up it looked behind him: there was Margaret, holding a smoking shotgun. Behind her were Marsha and April, trying to put down the fire with fire extinguishers.

Marsha: "Hold on Dave, the calvary has arrived!"
Margaret: "I think I already told you to get off him"
Mablothrax: "You again?!? Iīll squish you like a bug, mortal!"

The monster jumped at Margaret with itīs claws ready to tear her to shreds but she quickly cockered the shotgun and fired, hitting the beast in midair and throwing him backwards. It got up panting and grabbing itīs bleeding chest. Margaret cockered the shotgun again aiming at the demon and Daveīs eyes glowed bright blue. Both of them were ready to blast it into oblivion and he knew it.

Mablothrax: "Youīve won this time but this is not over yet. Your souls shall be mine!"

And again it dissapeared with a blaze of fire. Margaret fired but only hit the wall. The demon had escaped.

Chapter 4

Almost midnight, the six roomies were together in Daveīs room. Roger was frozen still and Mike woke up with a terrible headache.

Mike: "Ohhh my head! That thing sure was strong."
Dave: "Thatīs not the worst. It can change shape, itīs after us and I donīt think itīll give up that easily."
April: "What I was thinking is how it got here. Demons must be summoned or something, donīt they?"
Mike: "Well, weīve got two worshippers of Satan with an IQ in red numbers living right below us."
Dave: "Our good old pals Waldo and Steve. I bet they spawned that thing."
Margaret: "I say we pay them a visit and take some answers from them."
Marsha: "Yeah, I think thatīs the best we can do for now."
Dave: "Okay then letīs go. We have no time to lose."
April: "Iīll stay here warding Roger."
Margaret: "Then Iīll stay with you. Weīd better not get separated."
Dave: "Very well, now letīs move."

The three roomies went out the door and headed for Waldo and Steveīs apartament. The college was completely silent except for some low voices on the lower floor. Dave broke the silence.

Dave: "Donīt you see this strange?"
Mike: "Whatīs up?"
Dave: "Weīve had screams, fire and gunshots and no one has even come out to look. Didnīt anyone hear?"
Marsha: "Youīre right but we donīt have time for riddles. I just hope Waldo and Steve know how to get rid of that thing."

They continued through the stairs and headed for the demonologistīs apartament but when they arrived they found a group of people on the door. Two men in white came out pulling a stretcher. They looked at the guy on the stretcher and recognized Waldo.

Mike: "What happened?"
Student: "I donīt know. We came because those guys had the TV too loud but they didnīt answer when we knocked the door and when finally the janitor opened it we found them this way, in deep coma. Theyīre now taking them to the hospital."

Dave: "Damn! Now what?"
Marsha: "I guess weīll have to search for some clues on their apartament. Just wait till these guys leave."

As soon as the ambulance left with Waldo and Steve the students quickly lost interest and one by one they left for their respective apartaments. Thatīs when the three roomies aproached to Waldo and Staveīs door.

Mike: "Hmmm...locked. Dave, do the honours."
Dave: "Sure."

Daveīs eye glowed bright blue and a wide beam blasted the lock away.

Dave: "Ladies first."

Inside the apartament a huge figure was curled up in a dark corner resting from the battle. Although itīs wounds had already started started to close and heal the demon was still very weak. He hadnīt expected the status of Daveīs soul and, of course, wasnīt prepared for Margaretīs shotgun; it was amazing to see a daemonbane rune on such a modern artifact. He had always believed the craftsmen who made the runes of power were long dead. Anyway those kids would pay for the humiliation he had suffered but now he would have to be stealthier: He was too weak for a direct confrontation. Suddenly a loud noise broke his concentration. The Mablothrax morphed into a wall lizard recognizing Daveīs eye blast and hid. He had a plan and just needed a chance to execute it.

Marsha: "Okay, here we are. Now were do we start?"
Dave: "Letīs go to the living room. They usually do the summonings there."

The roomies entered the living room and looked around as their eyes adjusted to the weak candle light. The skinned goat was nothing more that ashes in the pentagram and the nurses had moved the TV in order to take Waldo and Steve. Apart from that everything was as the demonologistīs had left it.

Marsha: "Freakish stuff."
Mike: "So, these guys were the ones who stole our TV! If they ever wake up Iīm gonna beat them back to coma."
Dave: "Well, letīs start searching. Weīve got a friend to save."

The Mablothrax watched the students search the room ready to react if they came to close to itīs source of power. A large open book caught mikeīs attention.

Mike: "Hey guys, check this: "Mablothrax, lord of lies and betrayal". These guys sure have weird idols."
Dave: "Look at that picture! Itīs the demon that attacked me!"

Under the title there was an old medieval picture that represented the Mablothrax with a large axe in itīs hands sorrounded by mamed human bodies. Mike continued reading:

Mike: "The youngest of the seven Baalrûks and the only one alive, the Mablothrax has been one of Satanīs most effective soul reavers for the last millenium. As master of stealth, it has claimed countless souls for his dark master and characterizes by itīs modus operandi: It has the power of polymorphism so it changes itīs shape to the least suspicious one and approaches to itīs target and absorbs itīs soul. Its way of assimilating souls is very hoarse and extremely painful so it constantly generates an isolation sphere that prevents any sound inside it from being heard."
Dave: "Thatīs why no one heard the fight!"
Marsha: "Better take this one. If it has some info about that thing it may be useful."

They continued searching, always under the observant glance of the demon. After twenty minutes of extense search the only thing remotly useful they found was a small cheap book.

Mike: "Demon summoning for dummies?ŋ? Sure fits them."
Dave: "Well, thatīs the only thing weīve been able to find apart from the other book so letīs take both and leave. Weīll read it more peacefully at home."

Dave and Mike headed for the door. Marsha picked both books and started to follow them when a huge hand grabbed her face, covering her mouth. The last thing she heard before her soul was stolen was a rough voice wispering in her ear:

Mablothrax: "I hope you and Dave are VERY good friends."

The two guys kept walking through the corridor not noting Marshaīs absence.

Mike: "So, do you think that book will tell us a way to destroy that big guy?"
Dave: "I hope so. Since it says how to summon a demons it should say how to unsummon one."
Mike: "And wereīs the book?"
Dave: "I guess Marsha took it."
Mike: "Oh, I see. Hey Marsha can you...Marsha? Where did she go?"
Dave: "Wasnīt her behind you?"
Mike: "She was but...Damn! Letīs go back. I have a bad feeling."

Mike ran back to the apartament with Dave behind and rushed into the living room were he found Marsha, frozen still on the floor with the books by her side.

Mike: "MARSHA, NO!!"

Mike noticed a black drop that fell from above. He looked up and saw the Mablothrax holding with his claws to the cement ceiling. As soon as it noticed it had been discovered it turned around and dropped himself on the roomies knocking them to the floor.

Dave: "Watch ou-*UNGH!*

The demon quickly got up, raced for the window and jumped through it breaking the glass. The roomies got up much slower and only had time to see the demon escape flying. Dave tried to blast it but he missed due to the darkness of the night.

Mike: "DAMMIT! That bastard got away!"
Dave: "And with another soul."

The creature sent out a hideous evil laughter as it flew away.
